Laura Dean is a lecturer at Monash University’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science, where she is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. For postgraduates, Laura is responsible for delivering distance education units in palliative care and advanced therapeutics, and teaching into the Intern Training Program. For undergraduates Laura’s teaching responsibilities include professionalism, aged care and ‘skills coaching’ which are taught as part of professional practice.
Laura is a practising, accredited pharmacist and is currently working in medication management as part of the Health Independence Program at a large teaching hospital. This provides the ideal environment in which to witness the importance and benefits of “social accountability across health professions”. Laura's particular interest is working to improve patient care through developing empathy in student healthcare practitioners.
